Counting Down
They say that your Camino begins when you decide to go, in which case my Camino began last January. But I have reached serious countdown phase now, with just 2 weeks until liftoff. Gear and tickets purchased, first 2 nights reserved, post-Camino Airbnb along the Plaza Mayor in Madrid reserved, nerves definitely charging! I remind myself (credit to Candi here) that this is a pilgrimage, not a vacation. And I tell myself to get out of my own way and let the experience unfold as it will.
This pilgrimage comes in a transitional year. My father passed away in April (2 years after my mother), I officially hit menopause in the spring, and our last child leaves home for college next week. It feels like a good time to break out of my cocoon and see what sort of butterfly emerges.
