Day 14: Castrojeriz to Villarmentero de Campos
Left the albergue in time to catch the sunrise over Castrojeriz from the neighboring hill. So beautiful!
Also watched the moon set. Great way to start my day! For those keeping track, I’ve walked 222 miles so far, with 255 left to walk.
Today was a long day of dusty roads. The last 5 miles are always tough, especially when I haven’t rested and eaten enough, which is often the case when towns are spaced far apart or shuttered up for the afternoon. Mornings are typically really good, however. And today, Brad talked to me for the last few miles, which was a godsend.
Passed into the Palencia province today. For the record, Spain has 17 autonomous communities (roughly similar to states in the US) and 50 provinces. I’m honestly unclear as to how all that works, so that’s the end of the civics lesson.
Walked over the locks on the Canal de Castilla going into Fromista.
So happy to see Albergue Amanecer after 21 miles in the sun! Not sure that I really care about chakras this evening, unless they come with a massage, but good to know I can check them out if I want to. Meanwhile, dinner smells amazing!
Later: Dinner was indeed amazing. Woman in black is our wonderful host. My fellow diners were from Ireland, Sweden, and The Netherlands. Five different dishes.
