Day 2: Orisson to Espinal
Left Orisson in the pouring rain, which continued while I hiked 9 miles up and over the mountains to Roncesvalles.
Lots of cows today, all with cowbells.
Views were diminished because of the rain, but fortunately I’m from the Pacific Northwest and so very used to this.
Food truck in the middle of nowhere just when I needed a snack and a break from the rain for a minute.
Speaking of rain…my poncho worked great, but my feet sure got wet!
Walking through the forest almost made me feel at home.
Church at Roncesvalles. I believe it dates from around 1200 AD.
Walked past Roncesvalles another 6 miles to Espinal, where I scored one of the last beds at the albergue Haizea. No bunk bed for me tonight! Sharing a room with 12 other pilgrims from Scotland, Virginia, England, The Netherlands, Japan and who knows where else.
While I’m waiting for tonight’s communal pilgrim dinner, I decided to begin my tour of Spain’s non-alcoholic beers. Thumbs up for this lager!
