Day 5: Urtega to Estella

Today was a day of vineyards and olive groves, Roman roads and bridges, and old churches everywhere.

Walked through Obanos,

through beautiful countryside,

picked up a second breakfast in Puente La Reina

obligatory photo on the bridge out of Puente La Reina to prove I’m actually in Spain…

Hiked through the woods past the ruins of the Monosterio de Bargota.

found a heart in Mañeru

Kept seeing this city (village) on a hill that turned out to be Cirauqui

wonderful town with many narrow streets spiraling up toward the church at the top of the hill

walked over many Roman roads and bridges

Took a little detour to see an ancient church

After 18 miles, I finally arrived at the Hosteria de Curtidores in Estella, which is my fanciest albergue yet.

Mine is the top cubby. I share a room with three lovely women from Brazil, Colombia, and Kentucky.

Ate paella on the square in Estella, which is a fabulous city.
