Day 8: Navarrete to Azofra
Today we passed vineyard after vineyard. The grapes are delicious and look ready for harvest.
Started just before sunrise again. Luckily, we found a panadería as it was opening and scored ham and cheese empanadas fresh out of the oven.
Walked with Anne Marie from Denmark today, one of my roommates from last night. Both of us needed a lighter day today, so we just walked 14 miles to Azorfa. Cloudy, cool weather with a bit of rain.
10 miles to the first town, Nájera, where we ordered pastries and put up our feet for a bit. The town juts up against impressive red cliffs.
I think this makes me an official pilgrim, yes? I’m on the left.
Ran into a hilarious group of Spanish cyclists at the photo op. The people on Camino have been fabulous, not only the pilgrims, but also the hosts and the townspeople.
Staying at the municipal albergue in Azofra. The rooms look like tiny college dorm rooms. Nice to have a little privacy and no bunk beds. Mostly, it’s wonderful to have more time off my feet.
Dinner with friends from Denmark and The Netherlands.
So many beautiful flowers here, in the windows and along the roadside.
