Day 9: Azofra to Castildelgado
Instead of vineyards, we walked past huge fields of sunflowers today. I can only imagine how beautiful they were a few weeks ago!
Other than sunflowers, this photo pretty much captures the scenery of the day. We walked down long roads past fields and next to the highway. I walked with pilgrims from Denmark, South Africa, England, Belgium, The Netherlands, and more. Rainy morning eventually gave way to sun.
Stopped by a church in Grañón to pray…or stretch. 😂 Not long after Grañón, we left La Rioja and entered the “autonomous community” (roughly equal to a state, as far as I can tell) of Castilla y León.
My charming albergue in Castildelgado.
Isn’t it lovely?
Pilgrim dinner with folks from Denmark, Austria, Quebec, France, Nova Scotia, South Korea, Ireland, and Germany.
Like many of my fellow pilgrims, I have been dealing with sore legs for a few days, but they are starting to get better. Bought some compression socks in Santo Domingo de la Calzada today, and that helped.
